Parent 411 workshops are led by two parenting education specialists, Faina Smith (founder) and Candelaria Silva-Collins
, who have more than 20 years each of parenting education experience. They have successfully raised their children to adulthood and are also proud grandmothers.
This series is for parents who are looking for ways to affirm the dignity and humanity of both parents and children. "Good
communication provides a healing touch in time of trouble." It also allows parents express their own anger without hurting either the child or the relationship. If you are tired of yelling
, feeling disrespected and misunderstood and looking for positive ways to have a more harmonious, loving and supportive relationship with your child
, you will find many strategies to build such a relationship.
Effective and Loving Discipline
In this single session, we will discuss why children do what they do, the goals of discipline, and the tools and techniques
to teach children right from wrong and acceptable from unacceptable behaviors while letting children know that they are loved and accepted.
Effective and Loving Discipline -- (Series of 4)
Discipline is a core universal parenting issue. It takes time, thoughtfulness and discipline to master. This series of 4
workshops provides parents with a forum to discuss ongoing challenges, introduces the skills necessary to accurately
identify problems, explores reasons for the child's misbehavior including tantrums, lying, disobedience and whining, and teaches and practices the skills for effective, firm and loving discipline.
There is no magic to keeping children asleep through the night, but that's how it feels to sleep-deprived parents who
finally get their long deserved rest. As one mother said, "I am amazed, it was the first time we slept in the last 4 months."
This workshop helps very tired parents get some rest and keep children sleeping through the night.
Yes, You Can! Leave the House in the Morning Peacefully, Cheerfully and ON TIME
Morning is often the most stressful time of the day. This workshop helps busy parents to identify recurring stress triggers and provides parents with simple and effective solutions
to reduce morning battles.
The Joy and Challenge of Toddlers
A day with a toddler can be full of joy, hugs and wonder or just the opposite. In this workshop we:
- talk frankly about joys and challenges of parenting a toddler
- cover the key developmental milestones of toddler years
- provide facts about discipline: what works and what doesn't
- discuss sleep, food, and other issues of toddlerhood
Effective Limits 411
The purpose of this workshop is to help parents appreciate why limits are so crucial to effective parenting and child's
well-being. We will explore strategies for setting fair and effective limits.
Just Enough Is Plenty
Do you ever wonder if you give your child too much power, too many things, too much attention and too few rules?
Today's parents are swimming in the sea of overindulgence. Overindulgence is not just about too many "things"; it's also
about too many privileges, too much attention and shaky limits. Learn new ways to avoid spoiling children and teach them to be likable, responsible and respectful adults.
Parenting through Divorce 411
This workshop will share tips and techniques for maintaining the parental role while coping with divorce. We will explore
effective communication strategies with your ex (or soon to be ex) and with your children. We will discuss common pitfalls
to avoid and how not to use your children as leverage or as couriers in the post-divorce relationship.
Self-Esteem 411: Laying the Foundation, Strengthening the Core
What builds a child's self-esteem? Why is it important? This workshop will show parents how to build a strong foundation
of self-esteem in a child that is grounded in their daily activities and linked to their evolving skills. How a child feels about
herself establishes the core of who she is and who she will become. Parents will learn how to foster positive self-esteem without over-praising or creating outsized egos.
Is it nature or nurture and how can we tell the difference? This workshop will explore different temperamental
characteristics, demonstrate ways to apply this knowledge to particular children and introduce effective strategies for dealing with variety of temperaments.
